March 7th: Sailors Dinner Our second annual event so named will be a chance for members new and old, sailboaters and powerboaters to gather for a buffet style dinner at the club, which we hope will serve as an introduction to members who might be curious about the who, what, when of sailboat racing in and around our club. We hope to introduce potential crew to boats looking for crew, to invite those with powerboats share in the fun of running the races, and to encourage those who might want to help out as race committee for our events to enquire about how to do so.

March 30th: ERROR Cup The “distance race” for Lasers, JC9s, UFOs - basically anyone in a small boat which goes out and around Execution Rocks. The Execution Rocks Race Out and Return Cup.

April 7th: Laser Team Race A one day regatta that will invite teams of three as defined by participating clubs to a day of team racing.

June 29th: Commodore’s Cup This is a HYC member only event, a single day race around government marks and with a timed Pursuit Start, our low-pressure way to get out racing.

August 17: Governor’s Cup We share the running of this event with two other clubs, City Island Yacht Club and Orienta Yacht Club. This year is is Orienta’s turn to run it.

August 18th: Mayors’ Cup This race is run in a “fiasco” format, meaning that following a timed start based on each boat’s handicapped rating, she shall start the race in any direction and round the three marks of the course in any order. First one to arrive at the finish wins.

September 8th, Walk/Run/Paddle A race that raises funds for the Tina Doufekias Memorial Junior Sailing Scholarship

Sonar Sailing Program

HYC JS is proud to present our Sonar weekend sailing program. This is open to all Club members, active and house.

The Sonar is a 23’ sailing sloop with a mainsail, jib and spinnaker. It is easy to sail and has a large cockpit, comfortable for up to six people. It has a 2 hp outboard to assist with leaving the dock and returning.

This is only available to HYC members. Call the office for more info.

Frostbiting

Frostbiting has ended for the season. Check back again next September. As the weather cools down, the competition heats up in our frostbiting fleet. Every Sunday from the beginning of November through mid April, our JC9 and Laser fleets take to the water in separate sailing areas for up to six races per day. Whether you’re a novice or a seasoned racer, it’s a great chance to hone your skills in a friendly but competitive atmosphere. After racing, we retire to the clubhouse/deck (following social distancing guidelines) to discuss conditions, strategy, rules, gear and more. We invite all to join in the fun. We have a limited number of boats available for charter in both classes.

Not a racer, but still looking for an excuse to be on the water all winter? Our race committees always welcome new volunteers!

Please contact us at (914) 636-6300 for additional information.
